Cook Yancey Pro Bono Work

Cook Yancey supports Operation Rehydration.

Founded in part by Cook Yancey summer employee William Webb, a sophomore at Millsaps College, Operation Rehydration is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to combating the lethal effects of dehydration by diarrheal disease on the children of the developing world.

Operation Rehydration educates the public, raises money, and ships Oral Rehydration Salts to high-need rural clinics in Lesotho, a landlocked country in southern Africa. Diarrheal disease (including cholera, gastroenteritis, rotavirus, and dysentery) is one of the leading causes of death for children under the age of five in Lesotho. While far from lethal in the Western world, a simple case of diarrhea from one of these disorders can, and often does, prove fatal to children in Lesotho. Fortunately, the remedy is as cheap as it is easy: oral rehydration therapy averages only 30 cents a dose.

There are some 1,500,000 nonprofits organizations in the United States. Of those, how many do you know that can save a life for 30 cents? Hence, Operation Rehydration's slogan: "Small change...Big Change!"

Cook Yancey attorneys Bill Kalmbach, Kyle McInnis, Frank Dodson and Kim Gipson have proudly supported Operation Rehydration through the contribution of legal services. Incorporated in the State of Louisiana, Operation Rehydration's board of directors is composed entirely of college students, attending six universities throughout the South.
