LAW STUDENTS

Careers at Cook, Yancey, King & Galloway

Law Students

At Cook, Yancey, King & Galloway, we see law students as future colleagues. Our student program is designed to give you meaningful experience, personal mentorship, and a chance to see how a full-service law firm operates in practice. As a summer associate,  you’ll be welcomed into a team that values collaboration, professional growth, and community.

Connections & Collaboration

From your first day, you’ll see that collegiality is central to our culture. We create opportunities for students to connect with our attorneys, both professionally and socially throughout your weeks here. Our collaborative environment is one of the firm’s greatest strengths, and we believe it should be part of your experience from the very beginning.

Jump into Real Work

Cook Yancey is a full-service law firm, and our student program reflects that breadth. You’ll work across practice areas — involving corporate and commercial litigation projects, as well as real estate, energy, corporate, and estate planning. Assignments may include legal research, drafting pleadings, preparing for and attending depositions, investigations, hearings, trials, or even corporate closings. By working alongside our attorneys, you’ll see how different practices integrate to serve clients.

Learn from the Best

We know that mentoring is essential in the early stages of your career. For every project, each student is paired with experienced attorneys who provide guidance, feedback, and practical advice. Our mentoring program is both formal and informal. You will have opportunities to interact and learn from our attorneys while at our office. We also offer professional development sessions designed to help you build lasting skills in research, writing, advocacy, and client service.

Judicial Clerkship Support

Judicial clerkships can be an invaluable step in a young lawyer’s career. We encourage and support law students who pursue clerkships after graduation, and many of our attorneys have clerkship experience themselves. Clerkships refine writing and research skills while providing a front-row seat to courtroom advocacy and judicial decision-making — lessons that enhance every aspect of practice.

Community Involvement

Our lawyers are deeply involved in Shreveport and the surrounding communities. During your time with us, you will learn about those investments and be invited in as we make a positive impact on our community. We believe law is not only about serving clients but also about contributing to the community where we live and work.
